OMG 2 is a sequel to the 2012 hit film OMG – Oh My God!, which challenged the blind faith and superstitions of organized religion. The new film, directed by Amit Rai, takes on another sensitive topic: sex education in schools and homes. The film stars Akshay Kumar as a divine messenger, Pankaj Tripathi as a devout father, and Yami Gautam as a conservative lawyer. The film is a hilarious and thought-provoking comedy that delivers a powerful message without being preachy.
OMG-2 Storyline:
The plot revolves around Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi), a shopkeeper who lives near a Shiva temple in Ujjain. He is a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva and follows all the rituals and traditions with utmost sincerity. His life turns upside down when his teenage son Vivek (Aarush Varma) gets expelled from school for masturbating in the washroom. The incident goes viral on social media and Vivek becomes a victim of bullying and humiliation. He also attempts suicide out of guilt and depression.
Kanti decides to sue the school for ruining his son’s life and reputation. He argues that the school failed to provide proper sex education to its students and instead promoted a culture of shame and ignorance. He is aided by Akshay Kumar, who plays a mysterious stranger with dreadlocks and a smile. He claims to be a messenger of God and helps Kanti with his legal battle. On the other side, the school hires Kamini Maheshwari (Yami Gautam), a successful lawyer who believes that sex education is a sin and a threat to women’s dignity. She also happens to be Kanti’s childhood friend and crush.
The film then follows the courtroom drama where Kanti and Kamini clash over their views on sex, morality, religion, and society. Kanti uses various examples from Indian culture, history, mythology, and science to prove his point. He also exposes the hypocrisy and double standards of the people who judge him and his son. Kamini tries to counter him with her own arguments based on scriptures, traditions, and emotions. The judge (Pavan Malhotra) plays a neutral role and listens to both sides with interest and curiosity.
The film is full of witty dialogues, hilarious situations, and memorable performances. Pankaj Tripathi is brilliant as the simple and sincere father who fights for his son’s rights. He brings a lot of charm and humor to his role. Akshay Kumar is equally impressive as the divine messenger who guides Kanti with his wisdom and wit. He also has some funny moments where he interacts with other gods like Ganesha, Hanuman, and Krishna. Yami Gautam does a decent job as the uptight lawyer who has her own reasons for being against sex education. She also has some chemistry with Pankaj Tripathi as they rekindle their old friendship.
OMG-2 CAST:
The film also has some cameo appearances by Arun Govil (who played Ram in Ramayan), Govind Namdev (who played the villainous priest in OMG – Oh My God!), Brijendra Kala (who plays a doctor), Kabir Sadanand (who plays Kanti’s friend), Rajiv Kachroo (who plays Vivek’s teacher), Fahim Fazli (who plays an Afghan refugee), Vedika Nawani (who plays Vivek’s love interest), Shriidhar Dubey (who plays Kamini’s assistant), Kabir Sadanand (who plays an astrologer), Nrbarz (who plays an American tourist), Abhishek Chouksey (who plays Vivek’s friend), and Rajesh Bahl (who plays Kanti’s lawyer).
OMG 2 ACTING REVIEW:
Pankaj Tripathi plays a father who feels bad and sorry for what he did. He acts very well and makes us feel his emotions. Akshay Kumar is not in the movie for a long time, but he does a great job. He shows us how important it is to be brave and honest. Yami Gautam also does a good job and we notice her.
OMG 2 OVERALL VERDICT:
The film is not flawless, though. It has some clichés, melodrama, and exaggerations that could have been avoided. It also drags a bit in the second half and could have been shorter by 15-20 minutes. The climax is predictable and convenient, but it still manages to leave an impact.
OMG 2 is a film that deserves to be watched by everyone, especially parents and teachers. It raises some important questions about sex education in India and how it affects the lives of young people. It also shows how religion can be used for good or evil, depending on one’s interpretation and intention. It is a film that makes you laugh, think, and feel at the same time.
OMG 2 is rated A by the censor board for its adult theme and language. It released on August 11, 2023 in theatres across India.
